June 19, 2009 was the 30th anniversary of McFarland Publishing Company and to celebrate they held a company picnic. Invited to attend was not only their authors but also the people who live in the nearby surrounding community. The actual publishing company, a beautifully refurbished farmhouse, is not but a two hour drive from my home so I accepted the invite. I was so very happy that I did. Not only was I able to meet my editors, Steve Wilson and Charlie Perdue, but I was also able to take a tour of the facility. I did not bring my sock monkey, Salty, but perhaps I will when I next return. McFarland does some of its printing on site and if my book, The Encyclopedia of Vampire Mythology comes out in paperback (as opposed to hardback which I think I’d personally prefer) I will go back and photograph it as it goes through the printing process. There is a photo I took, but my Blackberry is somewhat possessed and will not let me do much more than answer the phone, if it rings, right now. Should I ever be able to retrieve my photos, I will post them.

Sounds like it was fun. Even if The Encyclopedia of Vampire Mythology comes out in hardcover (which makes sense because it is an encyclopedia) you should be able to visit again if the company is only a couple of hours away. I’m sure people would love to see action shots with you and salty at the presses or in the shipping department. Somehow I don’t fancy a sock puppet no matter how sophisticated lounging about the office areas though,,,,,

As your assistant, I would also like to say that I too was also very impressed with McFarland. The location was beautiful, everyone was friendly and extremely knowledgeable within their fields. I am sure they will do a beautiful job on The Encyclopedia of Vampire Mythology. I will be first in line to buy a copy.

Theresa, we were pleased (and proud) to have you here. You are welcome back at any time. Feel free to bring Salty.
