Schiffer Team Picnic
September 16, 2009 | 1 Comment
So, after spending a week in Atlanta, GA for DragonCon 2009 I drive up to NJ to spend a week with my Dad. He does not have the internet at his house as it would be a totally impractical expense seeing as how he does not have a computer. Ergo, I am way behind in my postings.
On Saturday, September 12 he and I made the three hour drive in the rain to the Schiffer Team Picnic. Schiffer is the company that published my book “Haunted Historic Greensboro.”
Although we had our Tom Tom GPS guiding the way for us, we knew we had arrived even before the announcement was made. At the top of the driveway heading down onto the Schiffer complex are two large statues of Chinese Foo Dogs. All around the building are sculptures. A pack of bronze greyhounds running, a pair of white marble polar bears, snakes, more foo dogs, turtles, crocodiles, a musical band rocking their instruments. In truth Schiffer has as many sculptures as McFarland Publishing has paintings.
Once there I was able to introduce him to Jennifer Savage, my editor and Dinah Roseberry, my project editor. Jenn was nice enough to take the time and give my dad and me a personal tour of the building. I was able to chat with Jenn and Dinah as well as with their boss, a lovely woman named Tina. We talked of ghosts and possible future books. Unfortunately, my sock monkey Salty was forgotten in the car and being a bit too lazy because I full up on hamburger and macaroni salad, I didn’t have the energy to go all the way back to the car, in the cold rain, to get him.

Someday, I might make one of their picnics. But I was doing a book signing at Creatures and Crooks Bookshoppe’s last book signing ever with other authors.
